So is 3D model really needed?...This was the concern of one of my LinkedIn connections the other day about digital twins and smart cities. ๐๐ก๐๐ฒ๐'๐ ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐... Is the hood and the design of the hood really necessary? When the real value is in its ability to transport, etc. You can use a car also without hood. Well you can not! If you want it to be mass adopted. If you want whole planet to be buying cars, it can not look like a boiler room. ๐๏ธSame goes for digital twins and smart cities. Even though there are gazillion haters, that claim, that a 3D model is not a digital twin, guys, deal with it! It is an inevitable part of it, if you want your industry to grow. Most people are not geeks, not able to read graphs, tables and charts. Another great post Michal! I think most of us recognise the significant value of a good presentation wrapper, and reality products are potentially an amazing way of supporting this. However, there doesn't appear to be too much research and evaluation around yet which has measured and captured the true benefits and business value. I could be wrong? If anyone knows of, has done or started any structured evaluations I'd be keen to discuss and collaborate in this space

3moLooks like you flushed out the haters. Good job ๐ But I totally agree with you. Whilst a few graphs and charts connected to IOT sensors could be utilised as a limited scale DT it is also of limited use to a limited audience. A Digital Twin can be so much more. Safety planning, robot path planning, training, facilities management, preventative maintenanceโฆall these tasks and more can be federated into a visually rich DT. The 3D model makes it a more accessible communication device, more easily understandable and therefore less of a risk than allowing a small band of nerds to silo the data in black magic code.
